Building Data-Driven Internet of Things (IoT) Applications

December 2, 2016

A four-step primer

Automated homes. Connected cars. Smart cities. The Internet of Things (IoT) will forever change the way businesses interact with consumers and each other. In 2020, 25 billion connected “things” will be in use, reports Gartner IDC predictions are even higher as analysts estimate IoT will grow from 15 billion devices in 2015 to 30 billion devices in 2020.

The connected car is a complex IoT use case. Other use cases that share similar platform concerns are fleet management, fire and safety alarm systems, and manufacturing plant operations to name a few.

Our connected car demo solves for a predictive analytics scenario. Using sensor data and machine learning algorithms, the application predicts a driver’s destination, computes gas consumption and can route to the nearest gas station. Additional data sources can be added to improve mileage, predict the next maintenance visit and even schedule the appointment or get a better deal on car insurance.
