Challenges

Groupon’s extremely rapid growth resulted in a slew of competitors entering the space. In order to compete, Groupon needed to continue innovating and improving its solution in order to retain customers, attract new ones, and accelerate its growth.

Solution

We worked with Groupon to build a mobile solution that would further help with user acquisition and engagement.

The Groupon mobile experience was built on the BlackBerry platform. It allows users to find local daily deals (available in 48 countries), get nearby deals on demand, purchase deals through a mobile device, keep track of purchased Groupons and sorting through location, expiration date, purchase date, and redeem deals with their mobile phones.

In order to streamline Groupon’s customer acquisition process, this solution allows users to sign up for Groupon directly through the app. It enhances sharing by allowing users to tell friends about Groupon’s exciting deals and sharing them through BBM.

Conclusion

Millions of users have used Groupon’s mobile app, and 24% of Groupons purchased in North America in December 2011 were from its mobile app. Reviews have called the Groupon BlackBerry app “impressive,” and praised its user interface.
