Version 5.8 of Pivotal Greenplum is now available on Pivotal Network. Customers implementing or migrating should always make use of the latest available version.  On average, a new minor release of Pivotal Greenplum can be expected every 4 to 6 weeks. New features in this release include:

  • Improvements to GPORCA query optimizations (details)

  • Configurable limitations to number of query slices that can be generated (details)

  • gpfdist protocol for external tables now uses SSL certificate authentication (details)

  • Resource groups can now manage memory and CPU for PL/Container (details)

Partners should take note of a few of important experimental features that are part of this release:

  • S3 storage plugin for backup and restore (details)

  • Storage plugin API for partners to create backup solutions compatible with gpbackup and gprestore. Pivotal is in consultation with several backup storage partners to build plugins to their solutions (details)

  • Pivotal Greenplum-Informatica Connector which is compatible with Greenplum 5.x, Informatica PowerCenter 10.2 and the Informatica Cloud APIs. The old version of the connector for older versions of Informatica and Greenplum are still available from Informatica (details).

Experimental features are still undergoing development, so feedback from customers and partners is desired.  While these features may not be ready for production usage, now is a good time to become familiar with them and try them out with your customer.
