Wipro Names Pivotal Partner of the Year for Digital Transformation

Last month, Pivotal was awarded Partner of the Year for Digital Transformation by Wipro, one of the leading systems integrators in the world and a key services partner for Pivotal. Wipro works with dozens of partners across the globe, so the award is a huge honor for us.

The Pivotal-Wipro partnership is anchored by a shared mission to transform how the world builds software and to help our joint customers achieve impactful business outcomes. Specifically, Pivotal works closely with Wipro Digital, a division of Wipro that uses customer journey engineering to help its clients build, test and iterate on innovative digital products. The approach meshes well with Pivotal’s blend of Extreme Programming, user-centered design and Lean methodology pioneered by our Labs organization and supported by Pivotal Cloud Foundry, our cloud-native platform for running modern software.  

 

While there were a number of criteria that went into Pivotal’s selection as Wipro Partner of the Year for Digital Transformation—Wipro’s Pivotal practice was one of the fastest growth areas for the company over the last 12 months, for example—what gives us the most pride is the success of our joint customers.

One such customer is a leading telecommunications company in the Asia-Pacific region. The company wanted to become more customer-centric but was being held back by its legacy technology stack, which put significant constraints on how quickly it could develop and release new code to production. It often took months to get new software into the hands of customers and there wasn’t a good mechanism for getting or implementing customer feedback.

The telecom company’s subsequent engagement with Pivotal and Wipro Digital is a great illustration of the value that systems integrators, working with Pivotal, deliver to customers as they grow their digital capabilities. In this case, a relatively small group at the telecom company initially worked with Pivotal Labs to learn cloud-native development and move a handful of applications to Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Following that success, the customer asked Wipro Digital to join the engagement, which it did by bringing nearly 30 engineers on-site to help scale the approach throughout the company. Thanks in part to Wipro Digital’s help, today multiple lines of business at the telecom company are practicing cloud-native development resulting in shorter dev cycles and more frequent software releases driven by real customer feedback.

 

Another joint Pivotal-Wipro Digital customer, a U.S.-based bank and brokerage house, was struggling with similar issues as the telecom company, plus it was grappling with an ever-changing regulatory environment. The company chose Pivotal Cloud Foundry as its cloud-native platform in part due to its highly automated approach to security and decided to standardized development on the Spring Framework. Modernizing a large portfolio of applications in a highly regulated environment is no easy task, so the bank turned to Wipro for guidance. Working with Wipro Digital, the company developed an extensive testing framework and processes that will enable it, with Wipro Digital’s continuing help, to safely and compliantly modernize and migrate hundreds of applications to PCF over the next couple of years. The newly modernized applications coupled with modern development means the bank can quickly test new capabilities and roll out innovative features to customers faster.

Two commonalities between these customer examples are scale and acceleration. Systems integrators like Wipro Digital help our joint customers take what they’ve learned with Pivotal and apply it throughout other parts of the organization at a pace not otherwise possible. Those are tangible benefits that have a real impact on our joint customers’ bottom lines and how they deliver value to their own customers.
