What Happens When Platforms Are Treated Like Products

December 11, 2017 Steve Casale

Learn how Joe Fitzgerald thinks about Platforms.

Technical architect and consultant Joe Fitzgerald (Senior Director of Pivotal Cloud Foundry Solutions at Pivotal) has been part of many software transformations. Those experiences helped shape his opinionated approach to building cloud-native platforms. Namely, that they should be stewarded by balanced teams, agile processes, and technologies — or built and run in much the same way teams develop products for customers.

It’s really about taking what companies already know about launching products, and applying that to an internal product that has a brand within IT.

Joe’s talk with Jeff and Ciara is a wellspring of insight. He covers the key role of a platform product manager to tie things together, leadership’s sponsorship role, attracting curious developers, applying agile and test-driven processes, and where to start and how to incrementally adapt the path to production.

Built to Adapt is at SpringOne Platform 2017 to talk to the people leading the world’s largest technological transformations — from challenges to trends, and insights to anecdotes. If you work in technology at any level, you’re going to want to hear from these innovators. Talks are hosted by Jeff Kelly and Ciara Byrne, journalists for Built to Adapt.
