Learn About Dell’s Digital Transformation at SpringOne Platform

October 4, 2019 Nichole Gorka

In today’s increasingly competitive marketplace, companies must pick up the digital pace to remain relevant. Swapping out new technology alone is not enough. To accelerate the pace, digital transformation is not only a necessity, but is essential for every business. This requires extensive changes to technology, people, and processes to fundamentally change the business and deliver value to customers.

To advance its own digital strategy, Dell Technologies embarked on a transformation journey 3 years ago to deliver innovative systems, tools, and experiences to its customers and team members. This led Dell Technologies to pursue new ways, modern technologies, and workforce transformation. At the start of the journey, Dell’s IT organization partnered with Pivotal Labs to quickly design, develop, iterate, and deliver new products and capabilities that customers want. By working side-by-side with Pivotal Labs, Dell developers learned modern and agile methods, paired-programming, and test-driven development. Not only were Dell employees fully engaged, they fully embraced this new modern way to developing software. As a result, Dell spun up its own lab and began to scale training across the IT organization.

“This wasn’t someone else telling us how to work. This was us transforming ourselves,” Greg Bowen, SVP of Digital Acceleration, and CTO of Dell Digital, stated in the recent Driving Digital Transformation…Through Leadership, Humility and Empathy podcast.

Embracing the Pivotal Labs methodologies, Dell Technologies created the Dell Digital Way, which is what it calls its cultural shift in how it partners with business teams using direct, simplified, and streamlined approaches to quickly design, develop, iterate, and deliver new products and capabilities. To demonstrate its commitment to this shift, the IT organization even renamed itself Dell Digital.

The Dell Digital Way has touched many aspects of the business, changing the way people work, think, and do. They have embraced new approaches to ensure they quickly meet customer and market demands, and deployed new technologies that deliver a better experience for their customers. Dell Technologies is helping customers shape their digital future while embarking on its own.

However, embarking on such a journey is not easy; if it were, everyone would be doing it. This is a multi-step journey that requires iterating as you go, and applying the lessons you learn along the way.

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from the Dell Technologies team as Greg Bowen leads the Four Perspectives, One Product Mindset: A Retrospective into Dell IT's Digital Transformation session (11:50 a.m. on Thursday) at SpringOne Platform, which takes place next week in Austin, Texas. You will get to hear first-hand from an IT leader, experience owner, software engineer, and business partner as they share their unique perspectives on embracing the Dell Digital Way. Gain valuable insights from how their roles have changed, how they learned to work differently, what benefits were reaped, what didn't work, and the lessons they learned along the way.
