Cool things this week:

  • ViewGroup clipping – no simple way to clip the contents of a ViewGroup
  • Using XMPP or MQTT to communicate between devices and server is possible
  • Horizontal gallery native widget on Google TV is useful, but it doesn’t recycle views
  • Having both horizontal and vertical navigation elements on Google TV is challenging, especially when scroll through a list of items

Headaches this week:

  • Open an activity from SMS link – make sure you have a host on the intent filter
  • Tab dividers not working on ICS, but they work on Gingerbread
  • Using focusable in XML doesn’t do anything
  • Custom UI for preferences
