451 Research’s Voice of the Enterprise: Storage, Workloads and Key Projects 2018 report shows that 48% of enterprises have already adopted or are actively planning to adopt containers and container management software. While the dynamism containers provide related to agility, repeatability, packaging and deployment, is ideal for stateless Web applications, it can be problematic for stateful database workloads. While containerized databases are a relatively nascent idea, this report gives a good sense of the challenges for their evolution while highlighting the capabilities in Kubernetes that enable the containerization of stateful services.
